Built for the ones who know water trapping is a different kind of work.

The beaver is one of the most important and influential furbearers in North America. Few animals can change a landscape as quickly. A single colony can back water into timber, flood roads and fields, plug culverts, reshape creek systems, and create entirely new wetland habitat.

That ability to engineer the land is exactly what makes beaver both valuable and, in the wrong place, difficult to live with.

Why Beaver Population Management Matters

Beaver can be extremely beneficial to wetlands, waterfowl habitat, groundwater retention, and stream systems. But when populations outgrow the land around them, the damage can be significant.

Flooded roads, washed-out crossings, dead timber, plugged drainage systems, damaged ponds, and flooded agricultural ground are all common reasons landowners call a trapper.

Responsible beaver trapping helps keep populations in balance while allowing the benefits of beaver activity to remain where they belong.

Fur Utilization

Beaver fur helped build the North American fur trade.

A prime beaver pelt is dense, warm, durable, and naturally suited for hats, garments, liners, and other traditional fur products. Beaver underfur became especially valuable because of its ability to felt, making it one of the most important natural materials in early hat making.

The castor glands also have value in trapping lure and other traditional uses. When handled correctly, very little of a beaver needs to go to waste.

How to Trap Beaver

Beaver are commonly trapped around dams, slides, feed beds, lodges, bank dens, crossovers, and other places where they naturally travel.

Body-grip traps, footholds, and other legal methods are commonly used depending on the location and regulations. Good beaver trapping starts with reading the water — locating fresh chewing, tracks, peeled sticks, mud work, scent mounds, slides, and active dam repairs.

The best set is usually placed where the beaver already wants to go.

Wear the Work

This hoodie is for the trapper who has broken ice before daylight, carried traps through waist-deep water, and learned that beaver trapping rewards patience more than shortcuts.

The front carries the Trapping Tales name. The back carries the Beaver Trapper artwork and a little humor for the water trappers who know exactly what it means.
